Athanasia Kanellopoulou presents her latest choreographic work, ‘’Two — Matters of Existence’’, the second installment of the trilogy’’ A few moments of gaze’’, which delves into the intricacies of the female gaze. Embracing a confessional and introspective lens, the piece endeavors to capture the deeply personal and often silent facets of the human condition.
Centered around a dual female persona, Two — Matters of Existence explores the convergence of two sacred yet transient forms into a singular entity. Within this duality lies a complexity of concerns and desires, as two formidable performers intertwine in a realm of dreams and fantasies, their whispers unintelligible yet laden with significance. Their relationship is one of existential depth, characterized by harmony, complicity, power, and imposition.
Through a poetic transition from the subconscious to the conscious realm, the piece offers a cinematic narrative that oscillates between linear storytelling and abstract reflection. It delves into the intricacies of desires, impulses, and fears, drawing upon body memory, dreams, and the essence of the female form.
The work has been premiered at the Kalamata International Dance Festival in July 2024.
