“My grandmother used to tell me stories about our little lemon tree in our house in Yafa, but I don’t see any lemon trees behind these walls.”
This piece delves into themes of gender, individuality, and the representation of oppressed bodies in relation to their surroundings. It explores female subjectivity, the tension between vulnerability and resistance, and the yearning to escape a dark, abandoned place in pursuit of salvation and light. Through the intimate yet powerful body language of eight women on stage, the performance examines the challenges of breaking through the walls—literal and metaphorical—that confine us. How easy is it to move forward and truly be free?
